For the first time in the winter season 2009/10 the Friends of Bridge Lake will prepare groomed X-country ski trails on Bridge Lake. Weather, snow and ice conditions permitting we will give you a choice of four loops (see map below):
Area map
- Rainbow Island Loop – Starting at the Big Bear Road public access (off Bell Road), the trail leads you around and between the islands on the west end of Bridge Lake. The length of this loop is about 5 km and you can easily hook up to one of the other loops to extend your outing. The loop is marked in red on the map below.
- Long Island Loop – A little bit longer than the Rainbow Island Loop, this trail starts at the East Greenall Road public access and leads you all the way around Long Island. It is marked in green on the map. Watch for the otter “surf” tracks in the snow!
- Cottonwood Bay Loop – Starting off at the North Bridge Lake Road public access (between 8436 and 8438 North Bridge Lake Road), this loop leads you along Centennial Park, Stack Creek and back around Gull Island and the Bridge Lake Provincial Park. If this 6 km loop (marked in yellow on our map) is not enough for you, you can connect to the Long Island Loop or even with the Lake Loop.
- Lake Loop – The Lake Loop connects the other three loops and – depending on which route you choose – is a 20 to 30 km long day outing. It starts off at the Moondance Bay Resort on Johnstone Road and is shown in purple on the map.
We have to remind you, that you are using those trails at your own risk. Remember that weather and ice conditions can change quickly, so be aware that there can be water and/or slush on the ice and in the trails. Also, we will only maintain those tracks when it is safe enough for our volunteers to do so.
