This year the fishing derby again had two categories – Rainbow Trout and Kokanee. The 1st prize in each category was fishing gear (sponsored by Screamin' Reel / Donex) valued at $200, plus a cash prize of $100 (sponsored by Regency Chrysler).

And like last year Luciano Burtini of Vancouver won the Rainbow class with a 2 lb 15.1 oz fish, even bigger than last year’s winner. The biggest fish of the competition however was entered in the Kokanee class: Kelly Powell of Bridge Lake landed a 5 lb 14 oz monster fish. Everybody present at the weigh-in agreed: That’s the biggest Kokanee we have ever seen.

Runner-ups in the Rainbow class were Bridge Lake residents Richard Smith with a fish just beating the 2 lb mark, followed by Jack Larson’s fish of 1 lb 14 oz. The second and third prize in the Kokanee class went to Ben Hoogstins of Coquitlam (2 lb 0.2 oz) and George Lewis of Chilliwack (1 lb 15.4 oz) respectively.
